Most current diversity and inclusion trainings talk about women and ethnicity. Those trainings fail to address “ability” and “disability”.

While there are many visible clues to a disability – missing limbs, wheelchair use, guide dogs, white canes, hearing aids – other disabilities like PTSD, stability challenges, epilepsy, heart-conditions, and diabetes, are for the most part invisible and all too frequently unconsciously overlooked.

We believe the question attorneys and mediators must ask themselves is, “Are we ethically and professionally meeting the needs of each of our clients, our team members, and ourselves, to provide our services at the highest and best level possible?”

Over the years, my longtime friends and colleagues Gary C. Norman, Esq. and Sheila Durant, Esq. and I have wrestled with finding good answers to that question.

Each of us has had our share of in-the-trenches success and quite a few learning experiences. Most times we had to learn how to do things better as we were experiencing them.

And we want to save you the time, expense, and pain of learning what you need to know on your own so you can comfortably work with and accommodate clients and team members with special needs ethically and with integrity.

Diversity Equality Inclusion Ability (DEIA) Lollapalooza

Learn how to work with and accommodate people from diverse backgrounds in a compassionate and inclusive way…

January 18 & 19 2023

10:00 am to 12:00 pm Eastern

We’re hosting a 4-hour workshop — the “DEIA Lollapalooza” – on January 18th and 19th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm each day. The workshop has been approved for 4 Maryland CE Credits (we’re working on getting New York CE approved too).

During the workshop, you will get boots-on-the-ground experiential practice to help you become a professional who feels comfortable accommodating your client’s and team’s needs and how to get your own needs met if you require accommodation.

Each day we’ll be sharing collaborative methods of accommodating and being accommodated in addition to the tools that have worked for us and the ones that haven’t.

We’ll also present 2 or 3 interactive scenarios each session to help you become more comfortable working in special needs situations.

You will walk away from this workshop knowing how to accommodate people from diverse backgrounds, with different types of abilities, in an equal and inclusive manner. If you require accommodation, you will be able to confidently ask for what you need.
